Howrah is a local term used for small open deck fishing boats, generally used as low costs day runners. These crafts normally do not carry any ice or elaborate gear. Mostly a long tail engine is placed on one side of upper deck. This size is getting closer to trawlers, the only difference is lack of UD structure and sleeping accommodation although a day runner, portable galley gives it the potential of staying out at the sea. This craft is versatile and also capable of gill netting, purse seine, long line and trawling. These are normally not used for bottom trawling or work where net need to be hauled on board using derricks. A net hauling winch can however be considered if desired.
For economy needs Essa and Sons can shorten the size of this Howrah by some 5 ft and reduce height by 2 ft. The engine can then be either inboard or long tail with corresponding decrease in HP.
